Greasing the neck bearings
I see many asking why do you have to fill the neck with grease when you only need to grease the bearings. The bearings are open and if you ride in dusty areas or rain all that can attach to the grease and bearings. So you have to put fresh grease in and push out the contaminated grease as PM. If you don't do this it will eventually lead to problems. There are two ways to do this.
.
#1 Pull the front end apart, remove bearings, remove old grease, put new grease, install bearings, assemble front end, check stearing head torque to propper settings. Should take you all of your day off.
.
#2 Pump zerk full of grease until neck is full and pushes old grease out of top and bottom. Wipe excess off. Takes 10 seconds to fill neck and 2 minutes of wiping off grease.
.
Yes you do not need all that grease in the neck but you are only talking less than a tube only the first time you grease it. And only if the dealer did not do it on the 1000 mile check up. Didnt cost me anything because they filled mine up on service so I only have to put a few pumps when I do mine. Oh and a half roll of paper towels.
