This is somewhat of a screwed up (messy) way of greasing these bearings. The only (easy) way to properly grease the TOP bearing is to fill the neck. Unless you completely tear down the fairing, and handlebar assembly to remove the trees, and access the top, neck bearing.
Filling the neck until a little grease oozes out of the bearings, will insure it gets properly lubed. Anything less will leave the bearings dry, especially the top bearing.
Two much is better than too little I guess, but when I was at the Company garage I thought I'd use the pressurized grease gun they use on the big trucks.
Now I don't know exactly how much came out of that thing, but I've been cleaning thick heavy grease off the lower triple tree for about a year now....
