By your definition of the problem, conclusion, something related to the fuel tank.
Since you can reproduce/cure the problem. "full tank =runs fine, 1/2 tank or less = problem":
Fuel pump, filter, hose.
The "random" code, could be related to problem as well.
Good luck
Let us know, please.
Thanks for all of the help guys! I think I'm going to replace the inner fuel line. I was wondering why the fuel pump sounded louder than normal! (sound being fuel drawn from tank. I'm going to open up the tank and look for bubbles when I turn the ignition switch on. I've gone through a lot of threads and the line seems like the culprit!
JohnSWA.. think about it sir.. if it was fuel such as a filter or other, you would more than likely be having other issues or codes thrown like 1356 for the rear cyclinder as well.
1.) are they stock plug wires? aftermarket can cause issues because of the resistance within the wire being out of tolerance.
2.) i think if it's not spark then its fuel delivery, meaning injectors. Check your wiring closely at the injectors for loose or corroded connections and put dielectric grease in the connectors.
3.) check the connector at the ECM for any loose or corroded pins especially pin # 28 (white/yellow wire) then put dielectric grease in the connector.
I was getting the 1356 code as well, but I didn't get it every time I had the problem which leads me to believe it's the internal fuel line. Sorry, I probably should have said that in the beginning.
Thanks for all of your help guys! Yup, definitely was the QD line! R&R'd both lines and filter since I was in there... Holy smokes! $85 for the filter kit! They wouldn't sell the filter only, but I don't care as this is good peace of mind for riding from now on. At first the fuel pump assembly was kind of a bugger to pull from the tank, but I finally figured out how to maneuver the spring and hinge and it was gravy after that. I can't thank you guys enough for your advice! I saved bou coup $ by doing this on my own and now I have such a feeling of relief! Onward to Sturgis!!
