Default Code b1154 and the clutch switch

Hi folks,

Hoping for a little help as I'm really sorta ticked at my dealer right now. Last weekend, while I was out riding, I saw the red key switch light up and go out. I learned that this meant the bike "threw a code" and I followed a procedure to retrieve it, b1154, something about the clutch switch being short to ground. The bike otherwise performed flawlessly.

That said, I brought it to my dealer. They proceeded to verify the code (as historic), cleared it and rode the bike a bunch of time and could not get it to reproduce. Despite my concern, and the fact that I was heading out on vacation (today) they didn't take it any further than that.

Fast forward to this morning, I picked up the bike and rode it away, got on the highway and the cruise control would shut off. At the same time, I noticed that the 6th gear light indicator would also go out. When the 6th gear light would come back, I could re-engage cruise. It did not repeat the code however.

I took the bike right back, the tech rode it and it simply wouldn't happen for him. He hooked it to their digital tech, tried the diag sequence to test the buttons, nothing. He did have some issues repeating the button diag.

I took the bike, headed out on my vacation, and it happened a bunch more, and threw the code again. That said, the bike is otherwise apparently fine. I don't have my service manual handy.

My question is, what will this switching being intermittent do? Other than the cruise cutting out (which I can live with for a week of rides). There is a dealer nearby, but I would really prefer not to risk losing my bike for a few days of my vacation, plus, I have to go through the whole rigamarole again.

Is there any risk of other issues? I never even try to start the bike in gear, and once the code went, I stopped using the cruise, and again the bike is running fine. I'm guessing the interlock switch tells the bike when the clutch is pulled so it will disengage the cruise, and perhaps make sure the bike will only start if the clutch is pulled while it's in gear. Does it perform any other vital function?

Just trying to rescue some of the week until I can get the bike back to the dealer, who will be hearing from me. I'm sure they followed procedures given the bike is under warrantee, that they needed to reproduce the error to get credit for fixing it, or to even know what to fix. But, knowing I was going away, hell, I would have paid for this to be replaced especially given I've read it's a pretty common failure.

Thanks for listening and any thoughts you can offer. I'm going to settle down and find myself some Johnny Walker Blue and relax.

Thx!

Out of curiousity, which NH dealer did you go to? Anyway, won't damage anything. May need a new switch. Look at your clutch lever and see if the switch is making contact with the lever and that the switch housing and perch are properly aligned. Did you do any work on the switch housings prior?

Why do they even call em service departments anyway, I can think of more accurate words to describe them.
