I was thinking about trying to mount my Tom Tom XXL 540 S on my bike, whats the best mount to use and is there any tricks to be able to read the screen in the bright sunlight! I tried to use it a couple of years ago and could not see the screen in the sun light! Or do you need to purchase a Motorcycle type GPS? Thanks in advance.
Best mounts out there. However, I had a Tom Tom, and there is no way you are going to cut out the glare unless you put some form of visor around it. Saw some collapsible visors on Amazon for around $15 but not sure how well they work.
I just bought a RAM mount for my ancient One XL after burning through a couple cheapo handlebar mounts. The RAM is by far the best and is very adjustable.
i've been curious about this also. in feb when i bought my wide glide i bought a garmin nuvi just for the bike and tried it with the suction mount stuck to the speedo. every time i'd stop or coast while at idle the gps was shaking so violently that i was afraid it would come out of the mount. that put me off buying the ram handlebar mount because my bars shake WAY worse than my tank. anyone else have this problem?
it really would be nice to be able to ride anywhere i want and then when im ready to head home just hook up the gps if i dont know where i am. i catch myself taking the same ol rides often and it sucks alot of the fun out of it.
I have used the suction cup on the tach approach for the last two years and no problems. Used to make some effort to secure it to the power cord in the event it came loose but I don't bother with it any more.
Stuck mine right to the gas cap cover (have the non-locking). Glued Velcro to the bottom and run a short strap under the cap to hold it in case it pops loose, which it has and no issues reattaching on the fly.
Tough to see sometimes but nothing like when it was on the bars and windscreen (had a bar mounted one), both locations were horrible to see (shaking) and I can imagine that much rattling would significantly shorten the life so moved it to the tank, no shaking.
Cord is not a problem, string it around the ignition and tucked excess by the cig lighter. No pinching or binding. Works great for me. Zero bucks.
