Default 2000 Ultra

With 44,000 miles, guy wants $8,900. Cam upgrade, lifters replaced, cam chain tensioners replaced all by dealer 1200 miles ago and he has the receipts. What is a fair price? What is going to bite me in the *** with this bike? Yea, I know it's got the old M&M FI. On a tight budget. Is there a chance this could be my last bike? Thanks guys...

Just got rid of my 1999 Ultra last year. They are having trouble getting parts for M&M fuel injection. As a matter of fact I had some extra parts for M&M and the dealership wanted them for another bike they had trouble getting parts for. M&M has always had a idle problem. Mine ran great and then sometimes it wouldn't idle right. Especially at high altitude. I liked mine as well as my new bike, but idle was a pain. Oh also wheel bearings have to be packed. Not a sealed bearing like on the new bikes. Rear swing arm has been updated and of course 2009 new frame. Look for a little newer bike. I bet you can find a newer bike for that price. Lot of them out there.

I was hoping someone would mention the M&M FI. Does everyone have problems with this? Reading that it did not do well with upgrades and didn't like high altitudes or cold weather. So tanker, are you saying the problems with your FI were intermittant? Yea, the prefered early year is 02 but everyone is at $10K on that bike. I was going to offer this guy $7,500. Thanks.

I bought a 99 last year with 38k on it for $8k, tensioners were all done, have put 20k miles on it with no problems. From 99 to 02 had the best built bottom ends, forged with timkin crank bearings, no crank run out issues, love mine and it is the last bike for me, unless I hit the lottery. I do know of a couple of guys that switched their old fi over to a carb and have no issues.

Dang, 20,000 mile in a year. That's very impressive saddle time. With the wife and I beating our brains out on the slop tail, an Ultra could be my last bike. Is the Zipper FI upgrade worth the $2,500 if this M&M FI turns fubar?

I would just convert to a carb, I like simplicity and I can work on it, but thats just me.

Thanks, is there a kit to do that? Is ignition remapping is required?

Am not sure on that one, but am sure the experts on here can tell you, you could probably find all the parts used cheap, not sure what budget you are on, I am married with 3 kids so you know my budget lol. This 99 was my 50th birthday present and my first big twin, I will rebuild, make it better and into what I want over time.

I paid $8200 for my near mint 99RKC with 20K on it a few months ago. My bike has the MMFI but I didn't know anything about the issues of it and I'm still glad I bought it. Bring cash and most people will deal a lot. I like the sounds of $8000 better with the mileage. BTW, according to the
HD dealer receipt, how much did they charge to replace the inner and outer cam shoes. I need to have them inspected and probably done soon. Good luck.

They replaced mine at 38k, they were shot, I had the lifters replaced and all the bearings, also had SE 204 cams put in, really like them, she pulls hard all the way to 5k rpm's now, not that I do that very often, the cams woke her up pretty good, best cam I have tested so far.
