So the wife and I are trying to finalize our stage 1 setups (13roadglide and 13 fatboy lo) and have decided that the 2:1 route is how we wantto go. From what Ive read Dragos andD&D both make a very high quality pipe with great performance and I dontthink wed be disappointed with either one. The problem been to a bunch of bike nights and some other local eventsand of course none there so we have never actually heard them. Tried the youtube route and you know how wellthat works .
For those of you that have either pipe or ride with someonethat does, what do you think about the sound? We both want the deep rumble but dont want to be deaf after an all dayride. Absolutely looking for the bigbark when twisting it, but do they mellow out at cruising speed? At the end ofthe day we want a nice deep rumble at idle, a lot of noise on demand, mellow enoughat cruising that we wont need earplugs and I can hear the stereo, and mostimportantly dont want her to hate me after long rides since shes on thereceiving end of the sound. Will these fitthe bill or do we need to keep looking?
The d&d has a sound all its own. You either love it or hate it. I love mine, but the biggest part I love is the additional torque it makes down low. If you haven't heard one, I would advise you give one a listen before jumping on a d&d.
I just pulled the Bassanis off my 2005 RG, heat on my right leg was unbearable in traffic. How do the D&Ds, Dragos and Vance n Hines compare? part of the issue (I heard) was that I am running black ceramics, no heat shields.
Never had a drago pipe, but have run the D&D FatCat with quiet baffle on a 96 with PVC and air filter. Wife said it was loud on back and made her ears ring.
The borezilla that's on my bike took the ringing to a whole other level for her.
I love my dragos. I get compliments all the time on the fit finish and sound. I actually had it installed at a dealer because I was going out of town. When I picked it up, the tech that did the work came out and said it was some of the best fitting exhaust he had ever dealt with.

I really like my Fat Cats with baffle but I liked my Thunderheaders that I had on my old bike better. Still a very quality pipe though. No plans to change it.

I too have the D&D fatcat. Best sounding setup I have ever heard. It's not too loud for my taste. When you twist it up she sounds awesome. The torque is a big plus too.
