Default TW-222 Cam Question

I was able to locate a set of the TW-222 cams with 10 miles on them for a really good price. The guy said he installed them and when they dynoed his bike, the cams did not start pulling until 2300rpms and since he does a lot of 2 up, mountain riding, he pulled them and went with the SE255 cams.

Now, everything I've read on the 222 cams tell a very different story.

Shoot me the straight story folks.......

I am no authority when it comes to cams but if you are riding 2 up in the mountains you should not be running around at 2300rpm or under unless you are not climbing a hill. I have the 222's and rarely ride 2up but when I do I am impressed with how well the bike pulls with 2 of us. In my opinion it seems like some people have unrealistic expectations when it comes to how early a cam comes to life. Just my 2 cents.

That's what I thought, that's why I jumped on them at a tad over $200.........

Sounds like this guys dyno could not get out of its own way. Oh wait, we are riding motorcycles not dynos.

My bike runs great with the tw222's, even two up.

A lot of people like chasing dyno numbers, which are only good while drinking beer at the bar. What matters is what you feel in your *^s when you ride. The 222 is a great low end cam for someone that want's some punch while riding two up or loaded with gear without going crazy with compression, heads, etc. Put em in and you'll be very happy. I was.

You want torque under 2600 revs, get a diesel, a 30 tooth front pulley or an electric motor........... What is the paranoia or obsession for not letting the motor spin ?????

Tell you what, if you don't like the cams I'll buy them back from you for what you paid, how's that? You will love them. I bet the other guy didn't ride the bike cause if he had he wouldn't have pulled them.

I think your right, he pulled them right after the dyno run and put in SE255 cams which he says is working well for him. As far as I'm concerned, he's a great guy, stuck the cams in UPS yesterday with delivery tomorrow without me sending him any money first. He's not from Jersey, that's for sure!!!! The more I see for myself and read, those Carolina people are good folks.

My bike: 2011 FLHTP 103, Power Duals, Supertrapp (SE) mufflers, & FM AC.

I bought a set of 222's, same type of deal. Looked as if they had never been run. Dude said he didn't like the sound. I didn't ask many more questions, just bought them and smiled. I've had them in for ~500 miles and I'd say the 2300 comment is spot on for my bike as well. It feels much like stock or maybe a little less TQ until ~2300 at 2500 it is pulling hard. I'm a low RPM rider, I typically shift at 3K unless I get in a big hurry. My previous bike was a 95" FLHT with Andrews 21 cams. My current bike does not compare in low RPM TQ, stock or with the 222's below 2500 RPM. I didn't want the 255 because of occasional hot start issues with the 21's. I was undecided between Andrews 48's or the 222's until I stumbled on this deal. My purchase was driven by FM's Power Vision support and their experience with the 222's. I have not dynoed my bike and am fully aware there may be more left on the plate. I will play with the tune more at a later date, but for now it runs well, pulls well from 2300 or so, and gets about 4 mpg better than it did stock or stage 1.

I knew going in that I would be giving up a bit down low with the 34° intake closing compared to the 21's that were on right off idle. It just gets to be a personal choice based on how *you* ride and what *you* like.

The 222's arrived yesterday at 2:30pm, looked like they just came from Fuel Moto (would never know they were installed prior)...Installed by 3:30pm but my ECM is still out to Rev Performance for updates, so I can't start the bike. Now to find the LED/turn signal issue....
