Hi everyone. First time Harley Davidson owner here. Not new to motorcycling, but new to the HD world. Bought a new 2013 Street Glide last week. LOVE it. But getting battered by wind buffeting. Switching from a bike with a full windscreen, I expected some change, but my eyeballs are jumping....so I need a taller windscreen - what would you recommend? Thanks for any input!
Same deal here. I got the 6 1/2" Clearview Recurve shield. They are under $100, I got mine at the dealership.
Kind of depends on your height though, I'm only 5'7" you may need a taller one, they have demos at the dealer.
I wear a 1/2 helmet and the buffeting was pretty bad. Taking the little visor off the helmet helped a little.
I changed the windshield and it got noticeably better but still had some, then added the deflector between the forks, it got a little better, then added the deflectors on the side of the fairing and it is a little better but still have some.
I'm starting to think it will never totally be gone.
The deflectors on the side are standard on the Electra Glides and are a huge help with the buffeting issue. Also Long ride shields is a forum sponsor. I have not used their product, but have friends who speak highly of them.
bought my 2013 SG in June...6 1/2 Klokwerks shield fixed about 60% of it for me....the fork baffle fixed the rest.......diff stuff works for diff ppl.......but those two did it for me.....the first day I rode home with the stock shield, my eyeballs were shaking
you have to find what works for you...don't get too caught up in what works for others. Those fork deflectors work and people swear by them....luckily, I found my solution without having to get them because I don't really care for the look...........most of my riding partners have found the fork baffle to work extremely well....some of my buddies have stock shields and nothing else mounted...with no buffeting.
I didn't really like the looks of the fork wind deflectors either. But the new style curves deflectors looked OK in the pictures so I ordered a set. They pretty much eliminated all buffeting on my 2013 Electra Glide Classic and I am pleased with how they look as well.
It's a popular subject in here, well worth using 'Search' above and browsing. There are alternative windshields, batwing add-ons, bottom tree add-on, fork baffles, to take the weight out of your back pocket!
Lower fork wind deflectors will fix your problem. With the right height shield and lower fork deflectors i have negative pressure (vacuum) riding a flhtk can smoke a cigarette at 80 mph smoke will be sucked upward
