Default Fog Light Exploded

So I'm getting ready to take an evening spin on the scooter. Still 100 degrees but what the heck.

I start it up, turn on the fog lights. I'm putting on my helmet and gloves and I hear this hissing sound and a loud POP. Fog light exploded and spewed glass everywhere. WTH!

I've put a couple hundred miles on this bike. It's brand new. Needless to say, I'm a little pissed.

probably moisture got in there, or oil on the glass.

halogen lights will blow if the glass gets hot spots/cool spots.

if you have a pressure washer, never use it on the bike.

Thanks, Mike. I haven't even wiped it down yet, let alone washed it. It's hot in my garage. At least 100 degrees (South Texas), but not in the sun so there wouldn't be any direct heat issues.

Good advice on the pressure washer tucked away.

new bike... it probably had oil or water or some kind of condensation inside of the light from new. it might be covered under warranty if you argue enough.. i have seen a couple week old gauges get replaced under warranty for condensation. halogens don't like water.

If you do a search on this topic you'll find that you're not the only one that this has happened to ... and of course everyone has the exact reason it happened, from the planets not lining up properly to the ever common oil form the skin when replacing a bulb ... of course, as the responsibility relinquishment disclaimer states ... Your results may vary!!

Uh, yeah. Bike has 200 miles on it. Lights don't explode.

To that point I called the dealership. They've "never heard of the issue" and they want to pick the bike up tomorrow. I'm sure they'd rather not be liable for some electrical issue at 70mph...

I doubt 100ş has anything to do with it.

wish I could ride at such a cool, comfortable temperature...

could possibly be related to a bad ground...poor grounding is responsible for most pre-mature lighting failures

Keep in mind this wasn't just the bulb. It was the outer glass casing. The glass hit my garage door 10 feet away.

Ha! Yeah, come on over to cooler weather. It's only about a 1,000 mile ride.

I'm no electrician, but that was my thought as well, Mike. The dealer is pretty freaked out about it. They were adamant that I not ride it over there...
