Default Fork leaking, where to start

Hi all, I have a 97 Ultra Classic and recently started to notice a problem with the front end. When I apply the brakes hard the front end dives and I hear a clank, or clunk, sorry I don't know how to best describe it. I put the bike on the lift and did some quick checks for the anything loose. I was going to replace the fork oil when I noticed the right fork is leaking from the top. Below is a picture. Where should I start? I looked at the service manual and it indicates to replace the banjo bolt with a new after removal. Would I need a new banjo bolt and washer? Should I just try to tighten it a little? The bike has 49K on it. I would appreciate any thoughts or help.

probably just ready for a complete overhaul- but you may buy some time by tightening the bolt a slight amount.

you can check for the exact area of the leak by cleaning the area, then spray with drugstore foot powder- the seep will wash away the powder at the source

it could be just the air fitting

if you decide on an end of season rebuild, a few of the guys have down some great work using the ricor system- read through some threads

Thanks Mike. Yeah, I was hoping to make it through the season. This bike is a future bagger project, that will hopefully start this winter or early next spring. I have a cafe project to finish first, can't be without a bike. Once I get started on the project I will have the fairing off, and using the progressive drop kit in the front end. Plus a ton of other stuff so that's when I would like to rebuild.

I will give it a good cleaning and go for a ride to see whats up. I assume I can ride without the fairing cap since I only disconnected a few connectors.

Those air forks kind'a suck. Easy to switch but no sense if ya will be tearing into it all soon. If tightening the fitting doesn't work ya can just replace it with a plug. Then you'll be set when ya tear into it.

Cleaned it up, tightened the top bolt slightly and went for a ride. I was out for over an hour and checked for leaks when I got back. It was all dry except for on the air hose. I am not sure if I cleaned that or if it was new, so I will have to check that again. Even so, it was minor and I can probably make it through the season.
