Hey guys, did a search and found a few things, but mostly a lot of guessing that wasn't even related to the guy's problem.
I'm posting here since most of the bikes in this section have the heel/toe shifters and will know what I'm talking about.
The shifters attach to a splined shaft that feeds thru the inner primary and has a chrome linkage on the back side the attaches to the shift rod.
The problem I have is that chrome linkage on the back side came off the shaft that holds the heel and toe shifters. The whole shifter assembly with shaft slides right out now. The splines "look" good on the shaft, but I can't check those on the inside of the linkage due to darkness and it's still hot (motor). What's the chances it just vibrated off without having any spline damage inside it?
Gonna try to put it all back together tomorrow evening. Trick is going to be getting the shift levers back to their original position so everything feels right. Is there a trick to that? Does the tranny need to be in any certain gear for all the linkages to line up right?
Yeah same exact issue happened to me when I exited the fwy. Prior to the shifter coming undone I noticed some slack back and forth on the inner primary, thought it was normal until it came out completely. What I found was the 3/16 allen head bolt was coming lose. I bought a new bolt and torqued it down, problem solved...
Thanks Mike. I'm going to try to put it back together this evening. Splines on both shaft and linkage appear to be in good shape, so that won't be an issue.
However, in the light of day, I can see multiple chips and scratches in the black textured paint on the inner primary now. What is a good way to fix? And do you think I have a chance at getting them to fix it under warranty?
I've tried calling all afternoon and keep getting a busy signal. Warranty is up on 8/23, but I do have the ESP for another three years.
I took mine off the tranny splines, tightened it ever so slightly then put a grade 8 hex bolt on it and torque the bejesus out of it....no chance its going to be an issue ....everyone needs to do the same or your going to be out in BFE when it decides to act the fool and you dont want that!
I got mine back on, tightened the crap out of it. So far so good. I'm taking it into the dealer Saturday for it's 30,000 mile service and I'm going to have them recheck the front one we just did, and the rear one for shitzngiggles.
