Default Washing...

Thoughts on using the wand washers at the self car wash bays? I understand about the electronics and axles, head bearings etc... Do any of you use those high pressure washers?

NO!

bucket, sponge, soap

a side benefit is that while washing the bike, you might feel loose parts before they fall off.

Power washer and seals dont mix. Hand wash with low water pressure for rinse ONLY.

I use one when I'm on a trip to knock the bugs off the fairing and windshield. Just be careful and don't get too close and keep the main part of the spray away from the bearings and electronic stuff. How hard to you think the rain is pelting your fairing when you are riding 60 MPH in the rain, sleet or hail? It is a machine, not a piece of delicate china.

Rain is pelting it pretty good runnin 60 but nothing compared to the 1000 to 2000PSI the wand is pushing out. A pressure washer wont go near mine, I have seen a little household pressure washer peel paint.

Use hot water to take the bugs off with a soft rag. I use a spray bottle and distiller water, then winded or denim cleaner.

no to high pressure.

I don't wash my bike. I use Biker Spirits instead, and it works great on everything. Windshield, chrome paint, seat, even the tires. A single can lasts a couple of months. Spray it on, wipe it off. Done. Can't say how it would work on denim paint though.

Nada too...bikes, especially HD's, love to be touched. Hand wash your baby and she'll bring you years of pleasure.

Well said IM.
I set up a 3 way valve in my mechanical room (on an outside spicket) so I use only hot, soft water on her. She rewards me in return.
