Default How fast is too fast for 88ci

So I was coming home lastnight at a good clip 90ish, so my question is how fast is to fast for cruising on the highway, I was running 3500+ rpms.
Just curious. Stock 88 with stage 1.

Too fast? I don't know if there is a too fast..
Probably wouldn't want to run it that way all day long though.

Are you afraid you're going to hurt it, or something?

There is no such think as too fast with any motor. What you have to worry about is a sudden, unplanned stop.

If we discount the posted speed limits, citations, fines and possible arrests, there is little to hold you back from running 90+ all day or all week. That engine can handle it with little to no problem. The twin cam is not the Evo or earlier H-D engines. The twin cam can handle long high speed runs.

3500 doesn't hurt the engine if it isn't lugging to hold that speed and isn't getting to hot. Heat would be the only thing I could as a problem. I ran my 02 RKC btween 80-85 for several hours and it seem fine. Almost seem to like it.

I believe the real proof is, of the (possibly) millions of twin cams out there, how much are you hearing about widespread major engine problems with them? Not too much. If you go into any Harley dealer or bike shop about the only time you see a twin cam torn down is because they are upgrading it, seldom for major repairs. Back when I was a kid in the 70's it was perfectly normal for guys to have shovels or pan engines torn down in their garage doing major work on them just to keep them running, it was almost a requirement or the bottom end would blow right out of the cases. Not so with the twin cam. Yes, they do have some problems like the out of alignment flywheels, but those are more of a rarity and usually due to abuse.

kidding?
my panheads run 80, my evo 80" bagger 120, my 80" fxr 135.

the 88" drivetrain will do it and the limiting factor will be wind resistance, not running out of revs.

BUT the batwing fairing lifts and relieves traction at wind speeds above 85ish- tread carefully...a cross wind of gust can send the bike skittering

maybe someone is trying to justify a newer, bigger motor....

My primary seals leaked when i ran that hard very long on my old bike. I always thought it sounded like it was screaming and hated to run it hard but was told the same thing. I would check your cam change tensioners every 20k or so miles
