I am thinking of installing the saddle bag lid speakers so my wife can hear better and I don't blast my self off the bike who has done this and how do you like them ? good and bad ?
thanks
Ron
I just did this MOD myself last week and I went with the HD version. The music is very light to my ears while riding but it def gets a little bit louder when parked/lights/traffic. Depending on the head unit you have there is no fade either which I do not like. I am looking at a new head unit and/or AMPs to achieve this so I can balance some of the music.
My wife loves the saddlebag lids better than the tourpak as she says they are more audible because they point up to her and not at her. no amp just radio. avc to 3 fader 3 clicks to the rear and i promise you will like them as well. turn off eq on ipod, if applicable.
Note: we ride the majority of the time w/o the tourpak but even with the tourpak on i only connect the saddlebag speakers as we do not use the communications system headsets.

bring your bike to the dealer and have them flash the radio to activate the fader

check out Hogtunes' new 6x9 lids. best one's I've seen yet including CVO lids which I have. I run the Biketronics BT479 kit in my CVO lids with a SS PN2.350D pushing them. I also (not going to get into the story) have a set of Pioneer TS-D6902R 6x9s that go in there as well. Those Pioneer's produce more bottom end bass than any 6x9 I've ever heard. I promise you, if setup correctly, you can hear them at 70
The biggest problem with a lot of these setups is they are underpowered. Pump too little wattage to a speaker that's capable of more and you'll destroy the speaker with distortion. Pump too much wattage to a speaker and you'll destroy it as well. The trick (or really not so tricky) is the addition of an amp to drive the speaker at the correct level. You'll find all you need to know in the audio section...
I would try the performance speaker and amp pkg from J&M 1st. It rocks!
I would stay as far away from the J&M as you could. I have the Polk 691 in my Cycle Sound lid, and they rock! The one thing I would do is check out the other people that make lids. I think Biketronics makes a good lid that's not supposed to leak. Mine leak a little bit in a good down pour. I'm sure if you ask this question in the audio section you will get a lot more opinions.

love their amps.. not so fond of their speakers myself..
Buddy of mine has the lids from HD installed when he got his SG. He said his wife has no problem at all hearing the music. Only problem I saw with them was it eats into your bag space.
