Best bet is go to store and buy a whole new shift rod. The stock ones S U C K ! I bought the cheap plain SE one, because it has the Heim joints instead of the crap stock.
When removing shifter pedals from shaft, take a sharpie and mark the end of the shaft to line up with the split, and then when that shifter is off, sharpie the splines to mark the alignment of rear shifter.
To me. I prefer to spend 30 min taking it apart, greasing is up just right by hand and reinstalling. no lie. 30 min. and piece of mind that its perfect. that zerk fitting is for the lazy man. Its just so easy and u save 30 bucks to spend on some oil or a full tank of gas. just my opinion
