I have 06 ultra. The front shifter has become a little sloppy so I am planning on replacing rod and front shift lever. I have gone thru the shop manual and dont see to much on that process. I do have an idea as to how it comes apart, but what I am asking is it good idea to apply some type of grease to the rod or should it be a dry fit ?
grease it and the shaft that the shift lever rides on. They have hardly any grease from the factory. i greased up mine and i could feel it shift smoother. Its shocking that Harley skimps out on grease in these areas although most bike companies skimp out on grease also. I use Bel ray water proof grease. stuff is awesome
Piece of cake. Three hex pinch bolts and you're done. One for the back shifter (to get to the front shifter pinch bolt and one pinch bolt for the shifter shaft. Inspect the shaft spline for flats spots. It's a common problem and can be a real bummer on your ride to Sturgis! How do I know this??? LOL! Don't forget to use red locktite on the pinch bolts. Those babies can vibrate out too on your ride to Sturgis!
