I've ridden both and for me the Batwing is just a better fit. I don't dislike the RG fairing, in fact I was on the fence for awhile but in the end, the Batwing won me over and I am very happy with my Ultra. I've owned more the 20 bikes in my 57 years and it's head and shoulders above all the others.
I currently own both..The batwing is a great touring bike but the roady is much better in the handling dept. The front end just feels lighter and is much easier to throw around. The roady is very stable at high speeds and around trucks on the highway.
If done rite the RG can look good, and I am sure it would handle a little better as it doesn't offer near the protection the SG offers, but all in all the Batwing is a better look in my opinion, I build Batwings for RK's as well as stretched bags and fenders, it is a very cost effective way to have a HD bagger especially with the prices of new HD today
