I have the 8" LRS - puts the air about 2" over my helmet and I'm 5'8". Still look over the top which is good but it is in my field of vision. Also looks good IMHO. Not my default shield but will see more use when it get colder out this fall I'm sure.
My go to is the 7" HD wind splitter. Puts the air right at my forehead and with the fangs installed the air is actually really clean. The 7" WS sits at the very bottom of my vision - hardly notice its even there. Between better view and more airflow this is primary shield for warm weather riding.
Hi All -
The stock shield is 6.5" total from bottom to top. When installed it is 5" about the fairing mounts.
That being said, what is the actual height of the HD 7" Wind Splitter? It says 7", but is that from top to bottom or the height when installed above the fairing mounts?
I ride with a Tall Boy seat and really need a few more inches above the fairing mounts. 7-8" would be perfect for me.
BTW, Memphis Shades makes some really cool looking shields for 2014 SG's as well. $100 at Dennis Kirk.
Just picked up a Klock Werks 6.5 inch windshield. I am 6ft 2in tall and I have been driving around with the stock 4in windshield on my 2014 FLHX since April. I have a Denim Black bike and went with the black windshield. I have no idea how people have had ANY problems with these windshields at all!! I went from the wind coming off and hitting me right in the eyes. Which also made it impossible to hear anything at all on the stereo, to the wind kicked just up over my head. Its been nice to actually be able to hear music on my rides now. The shape and curves of the windshield compliment the batwing fairing very nicely. Pictures to follow:
I recently installed my 6" FreedomShield recurve shield on my SGS. I had a LRS 6" and a 7" recurve shield on my '12 SG and the 6" was perfect for me. Didn't notice any difference in wind protection with the 6" vs 7", but I tend to slouch while riding and can see over the 6" best. I really liked my LRS shields but FreedomShields was the only vendor I could find that made a 6" recurve shield. The FreedomShield is top notch and of great quality and is thick. John was great to deal with and got me the shield within a week even though he was backed up for all the riders wanting them for Sturgis.
If you want a 6" recurve, they're the only game in town....or country for that matter. I highly recommend them!
I just bought a 14 SGS and the buffeting on the way home was pretty bad plus I got nailed by about 10 bugs. Called Long Ride Shields and had a new 7" shield in two days for $90 plus shipping. Buffeting is now gone and I am really pleased. I am 5"8"

I have a CeeBaileys 6" recurve. They will make you any height you wish.
