Just bought an '08 Ultra with 30K about a month ago. Love riding it until about halfway through the day a heavy vibration develops and doesn't go away unless revved over 2500. Feels like going fast over wash board road. The only thing I can come up with is maybe motor mounts, which I have checked not running, and drive belt adjustment. I do alot of Colorado twistie riding. Bike handles well and seems to run well except for the "Milwaukee leaness". Thx for any advice. Please don't advise me to take it to the "stealership" !!!!!!!!!!!
the rev limit is over 5000 rpms ( and on various V twin models has been 5200, 5500 and 5800 )
low rpm operation ( lugging) can sound cool right until the motor dies.
oil volume and pressure are dependent on rpms------ more rpms, more lube, more cooling ( oil is part of the cooling system)
lugging the motor will blow the bearings in the lower end of the motor.
Sound to me that's what is happening.
6th gear is good above 65 MPH on level ground, no head wind.
passenger, headwind, hills, stay in 5th longer
don't be afraid of using the motor- they are made to rev.
AND at higher revs you can control deceleration with the throttle and save the brakes for when you need them- If you are riding twisties, you want cool brakes, right?

Thx Mike for the response. I rarely let rpms get below 2200. The vibration I am trying to describe doesn't come on until after about 100 miles. After bike cools,, gone. 6th gear is pretty useless in the mountains unless maybe you have a 103/110. I am well aware that diagnosing some of the problems people post here is like getting a haircut on the phone! Still appreciate pointers.
