I done with the Dyna Beads. They worked for a while but it's a hassle trying to re-use them. So what do other people use? I see two different types, the Harbor Freight spindle type that keeps the wheel in the upright position and the bubble type where the wheel lays flat. I've seen a local shop use the bubble type before.
You could get the Harbor freight one, they certainly should work well. I just use a 3/4" shaft suspended between two two jack stands. I have the wheel bearings in place on the wheel, and another set of bearings that I bought placed on the 3/4" shaft at each of the jack stands. Works great! Eventually, I'm going to mount a couple of brackets on my home made tire changer, and do the balancing on it as well...
