Now that's just crazy talk. Back and forth will confuse the motor. :-)

My last 3 new Autos came factory filled with Syn oil.
So much for the old break in theory.
5K changes in the 'King, all 3 holes.
Autos changed by the oil life on the DIC, usually around 10-12 K miles.
Hey, it's your ride, use what you want...

Not that it's apples and oranges BUT.. I have 2 ford rangers since new [97 -91] 350,000 mi and 250,000 mi... engines never opened up and run like new. ALL DYNO OIL with 4000 mi oil changes. So kiss that over priced synthetic GOOD BYE...
The 97 wide Glide gets DYNO Valvoline race oil in the engine, lucas 85/140 tranny, belray in the primary ....

I run synthetic in my cars (BMW and Mercedes), and usually conventional in the Electra Glide...I am a huge fan of synthetic, but don't do enough miles to reallly justify the use, so I use regular and change it out at the end of each season (With usually about 2k miles), just for the time interval.

I came to the touring world from nearly a couple decades of softtails, the motor noise from behind the fairing already drives me nuts, anything that makes it louder isn't for me. Besides I have been running dino in all my Harleys up to now with no issues. When my 1,000 mile service comes up next month I will NOT be switching to synthetic.

When I bought my first HD in 2007, I used dino oil for the first few thousand miles. I became a HD forum member and started reading... I converted to synthetic oil, my indy likes Amsoil so I used that or M-1.

With synthetic or conventional dino oil, I go 3000 miles and change it. I also began using the scavenger oil change system in 2008 on my FLSTF and use it on my RKC.

IMO, if a person changes their oil, [ synthetic or dino ] & filter at 3K miles, good to go.

Synthetic oil advantage is related to slower breakdown due to heat and better flow. I use synthetic due to the heat on v twins.

There are a lot of claims about mileage but that is not a fair comparison. It is more about environment then mileage.

When it comes right down to it how many have engine failures due to oil no matter what they use. The part that gets me on these discussions is related to money. Harley parts are all about money.

Used Amsoil in my Fat Boy, Used whatever break in oil they had in it for the RK until the 1000 mi service then all 3 holes got filled with Amsoil. I synthetic in everything. When I had to break down a motor I saw how clean it was by using synthetic. I don't plan on going 10K between changes, only going to go 5K. Not necessary, but I plan on keeping it for many years, I like to know there will always be good clean fluids in the system.
