What happens when you wind it up enough to hit the Rev Limiter?

Does the gas shut off and bike will only idle with the engine light on? Then pull over, turn bike off, wait a couple of minutes, hard starting but starts, then runs great just like before.

This happened to me yesterday while 'on it' and not watching tach.

 

it feels like the bike cuts off but it never stops running...once you back off it's like nothing ever happened. It is a shock the first time it happens...like, oh ****, I just blew my motor.

 

If you hold the throttle open it just cuts out like the engine is missing and it will maintain the rpms. You can just let off and keep going
