Default Rev Limiter

I was wondering how the bike would behave if you hit the rev limiter? Today while running the bike I hit it pretty hard and since I have no tach on the Deluxe I'm not sure how high it was reved, but the bike sounded like it stalled out for a split second. Once I eased off the throttle it was ok. Behaved fine after that for the rest of the trip. Thanks.

the bike will cut in and out while maintaining the RPM the rev limiter is set at. It wont do the engine any harm to hit it. Just not recomended to do it over and over again.

That's about it, the "limiter" will cut off the ignition and or fuel to keep the engine from going any faster. So like sonar said it will kind of cut in and out on you. But I would also recomend that you "not" make a habit of banging the engine off it too often. Sooner or later something's gonna break.

Stock it is 5500rpm, If you have the stage 1 download or some kind of fuel management you can go up to 6500.

****, wadda ya mean something's gonna break Citoriplus? I just installed my new tach and just realized that I've been shifting at like 2,000 rpm's for months. Was shifting at like 3,000 all day but at that rpm it sounds like the bike is gonna explode. lol.

I took it to about 5,000 twice and I really thought the motor was getting slaughtered. Maybe it's the Rush slip-ons 2.25's? I got told by my bud that when I shifted at 5,000 or even at 4,000 the sound is horrendous.

Is there a possibility of screwing up the motor by shifting too high?

I know this is probably a brain dead question but now I'm getting paranoid, especially with the damn noise of the engine/pipes I was hearing yesterday. It was past being loud in my opinion.

Your not going to hurt anything by shifting at 4-5000 rpm's. It may sound like it will explode, but it wont. Now if you constantly hit the rev limiter, it is possible you could screw a few things up but not likely. Just ride like you always have and youll have nothing to worry about.

Agreed, most people, myself included, tend to"underrev" a Harley precicley because it does sound like hell once therevs get up over 4-4500 rpm.
As for "screwing" things up hitting the limiter Chris is right its unlikely, but why tempt fate.
An engine is a mechanical device driven by the semi controlled burningof a fuel/airmixture and when pushed tonear its physical limits, strange things can and sometimes dohappen.
Staying below 5000rpm keeps the engine well within its design limitations, but still sounds like hell gone mad, and will push the bike about as quicky as it is possible to do with a basically stock engine.
Any more power that might be squeezed out of it by twisting the grip harder/longer is unlikely to probuce enough power to be worth the increased wear and tear.
Shifting will give you more of a kick in the pants feel anyway.

Im glad you asked the question, because I was curious too.

I have hit the limiter 2 or 3 times with my bike - the power just "quits'.

I find the TC96 revs so easily and smoothly that getting it there happens frequently.. Does nothelp methat the crew I ride with are all "hammer down from the lights" types of guys.

Interesting, I have wondered about the rev limiter thing myself- I have the Tmax set at 6200 and I do not think I have been there yet-
Have not been able to run the bike with new mods yet [>:] Winter.....
