How difficult is it to install the led daymaker light and ipod connection with saddlebag mount. Local shop said 4-6 hours labor, sounds crazy. Daymaker light says plug and play, but they said it is two hours labor. How much wiring to run the saddlebag ipod setup, thanks
The LED headlight is easy. I bought the Trucklite version but I hear it's the same as the HD light.
Unscrew the trim ring holding the headlight in
Unscrew the screws holding the headlight in
Pull the headlight out and unplug it from the harness
Plug the new headlight in
Screw the headlight back in
Screw the trim ring back on
It took me all of an hour going REALLY slow, taking pictures, AND installing the LED lights in the passing lights.
The iPod interface was more difficult but not that bad. I bought the interface from IronCross Audio. The process was:
Remove the outer fairing (4 screws)
Unplug the radio harness from the radio.
Plug in the iPod interface
Plug the radio harness into the iPod interface (it piggybacks)
Crimp the two loose wires onto the Red and Black wires of the main radio harness (this is used to provide power and ground to the iPod interface)
route the cable to the front of the fairing right next to the gas tank.
Remove the gas tank console (two bolts)
Remove the seat.
Remove the gas tank (4 bolts and the gas line, at least for my 2011)
There is a plastic wire channel that holds all the wiring between the fairing and the frame. It sits beneath the gas tank. Open this up and run your iPod cable down the channel, then along the frame where the battery is. I ran my cable into my tourpack since I already have a hole drilled for it.
If you want to run the iPod into your saddlebag, route the cable to the saddlebag.
Drill a hole in your saddlebag.
Route the cable into your saddlebag, there should be a grommet to protect the cable where it goes into the saddlebag.
Reassemble the bike, and you're done.
It took me about 2 hours to install the iPod interface and I'd never taken the gas tank off before. It wasn't difficult at all.
Thats what i was thinking, okay, they want way too much. The harley stuff online says the light is plug and play, but they told me they had to wire some stuff. Good to know. The ipod is more work to run it to the saddleback, rather then just place it in the glovebox on the roadglide fairing. Trying to determine if it is worth the pain of running it to the saddleback or not.
