Engine died while riding
Hi all, I'm new to the forum, but not new to bikes. I have an 05' Ultra that is primarily stock (no engine work, no screamin eagle parts). While on a trip across two states my engine suddenly died while riding. Power is still available however, the ignition fuze (15a) pops. When the fuze is replaced, it immediately pops when the ignition switch is turned on (prior to starting). When this happens the fuel pump doesn't cycle up (as it normally does when the ignition switch is turned on). I recently replaced the battery, and ensured the cables were tight. Additionally, I see no areas on the frame were a "short" has occurred as what might happen if a wire had finally rubbed thru and shorted. Doing some research online, I have a few ideas of the culprit, (circuit breaker needs upgrading to 50a vice 40, bad ignition module, ECM relay switch bad??) Not sure where to go from here and want to avoid the "stealership" if at all possible. Any help that can be given is greatly appreciated.
Welcome, you say you see no areas on the frame where a wire rubbed through, did you pull the outer fairing and check wiring underneath there, specifically around the fairing brackets? Wiring to the ignition switch is another area to check. In the rear, where 3 wires enter the switch, due to heat they can melt and cause issues.
