Default Chrome or Polished Forks

I know it is much easier to purchase the chrome. However I am trying to stay on a budget so I can get more things done. I also have the time to do either. I also have a service manual so I should be able to figure how to do it. Not sure about removing/installing the springs but I will figure that out. What I am trying to find out cost wise if I buy chrome forks from someone like ***** Shiny what else do I need to buy? And is there a difference if I polish mine? I will be removing the forks as I will be lowering the front at the same time. Also does ***** Shiny do the cow bells or will they polish up too?
Not sure if it worked. I tried to attach a photo of the bike after I lowered it 2" in the rear with "Bitchin Baggers" shocks.
Thanks for any reply's
Ride safe,
Mike

Do the exchange with ***** Shiny if your going to have it apart anyway. I think I had about 300.00 in mine all said and done. I think he does cowbells, I bought mine from HD. About all you will need are the acorn nuts that hold the axle.

posllished mine with white diamond and an air buffer.I have had a lot of people ask me if they was chrome really like the way they turned out. but it took three days workin on it part time. I took 500grit sand paper on an electronic palm sander went over the whole forks till smooth all casting marks was gone then pollished.

I personally like a combination of chrome and polished on a bike. If your taking the forks apart for lowering, have them professionally polished. BTW, hen lowering 2" in rear, will your OEM kickstand still work? I lowered mine 1" in front an rear and it woks but barely. Most people are going to say have them chromed.

I had polished covers on my FXD. THey looked great after a few hours of polishing every other week. That lasted 3 months................then they were powdercoated...saved about 95% time to keep

Thanks for the input... The kickstand works fine... May not when I lower the front..

Polished parts can look nearly as good a chrome (maybe better depending on taste/application) but they take 5 times the maintenance, compared to chrome, to keep them looking good. Chrome will also hold up much better to little hits out front. IMHO there are only two choices for front forks, chrome or powder-coat.

This spring I polished the lowers on my Fat Boy. It looked nice. No issues, and added a lot of flash. Then a couple months later, I went and had chrome lowers added. It really was a pretty drastic improvement. To me, it was money well spent.

My last three bikes I've gone with chrome. Couldn't be happier. Chrome is so easy to clean, keep look nice, and they are maintenance free. May cost a little more initially, but long term it's absolutely the best choice.....imho
