Been using 0000 steel wool with turtle wax chrome polish, takes anything off and has never left a scratch!

Get your pipes hot from a 10 minute ride, Then spray some oven cleaner on a rag, away from the bike. Rub it on the spot you wont cleaned. Let it sit for a few minutes, the rub it off.Wont scratch anything and will dissolve the schmutz.,,

I melted the sole of my running shoe on there, and by heating it up and using oven cleaner it came right off.
**** BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET IT ON ANYTHING ELSE!!! It'll ruin brushed aluminum, zinc headed bolts, paint, and black engine casings. Be sure to put rags behind the pipe before you spray/apply it.

I use a dog's rawhide chew strip. Not kidding, works great. Use it like a scraper.

I know you said you weren't kidding, but still that's a little far fetched. Hahaha.
I could see it now, "honey why are taking the dog treats to the garage. "
"To clean my bike"

Sounds like when I was 18 and and the guys sent me to ask everyone if I could borrow a board stretcher.

I don't doubt that it works. I just want to know what you were drinking when you thought of trying it.

I 2nd this. I had burnt on oil and boot marks on my exhaust. magic eraser sprayed with carb cleaner took it right off. Polish with chrome cleaner and your good to go. Hopefully your burn will heal fast.

Thats what's called a Harley tattoo

Ya gotta love Harley dudes. Guy removes the flesh off his leg with a screaming hot pipe and is worried about the mark it left on the chrome.
