Yep,just like how you check the bike all over for any damages as soon as you drop it even though you maybe bleeding

I loved the pipe on my old sport bike, the titanium headers and collector could be screaming hot but with the carbon fiber "muffler" you could lay your hand on it and not get burnt.

I'd buy carbon fiber heat shields if I could find them.

I've had good luck with cooper wool, it is soft and won't leave scratch marks. YRMV, good luck!
