I'll admit to being a tech idiot. While handy when I can get service, I hate using my iphone for much of anything. So slow, hard to read or navigate. I couldn't imagine using it while riding? Way too cheap to spend $600 on a GPS. I got a Garmin Nuvi with lifetime maps at Cosco for $130 and a handlebar mount off ebay for $15. I use it in the car, truck and bike. Does every thing I want, easily.
exactly! Buy what you feel comfortable in using.. if it's not waterproof then throw a baggie over it or take it off.
i.x devices are toys.. Full of really cool gadgets that never work properly and then you lock yourself into the whole iTunes thing..
Well I don't plan on any long trips till next summer but this is CA. and you can literally ride year round, unless you live in Lake Tahoe or something.I guess I'll save up for the Zumo and a center mount and have it hard wired in.I can live without XM radio I've had it before and mostly just left it on BB Kings "Bluesville" station. Is the Xm a one time cost or do you have to pay a monthly bill?

same as sirius, monthly subscription but you can pay annually, quarterly, or monthly
Thanks for all the great replies and information. After reading this, I dont think my smart phone is the way to go for navigation. Many times I am out in the middle of no where with zero signal (verizon). Its too small to see. I cant operate it with gloves on. And its not waterproof. From everything ive read it sounds like the Zumos are the way to go. Lots of good reviews from people who have used them for years and tens of thousands of miles. I like the T&T Fabrications mount. Gets the gps right up high and center.
Dude, you have a smart phone--it's smart and has great capabilities. I have the same phone and I absolutely love it and use it heavily. I use a variety of different GPS programs--why because they're there. My goto GPS is Scout which offers so many features.
Not for me. Not water proof. No baggies for me, thank you very much.
I think this thread is about both phone and GPS...
There are several options of the eCaddy brand for both GPS and phone. Here's a couple links to guide pages I put together. Maybe those on this loop will find them helpful.
