Be careful low-balling the guy. If you came in low-balling me like that you'd be taking a walk for sure.
That bike is priced right if it looks as good in person as it does in the photo. If he has the maintenance records and it has good compression (take a tester with you), pay the man and ride it home. Evo's need little to be rock solid.

If I could get a bike like that at $4500 and be able to get it in good shape for another couple grand, I'd consider it a good deal. I'll actually have more than that in my 89, but I'm kinda going overboard on fixing what ain't broke yet - I want a very dependable ride, and wouldn't trade it for a twin cam, either.

So I went to take another look at the bike this morning. The issues I found were: Fuel in tank is varnished from sitting all these years, Rear tire is flat, front is low. Battery is dead, oil looks ok, but I will change all fluids anyway. All wiring looks ok, not chewed up by rats thank god. Seat is good, no rips. The saddlebags and tour pack are in good shape no cracks. All in all it's in good shape for a bike that's been sitting for 10 years.

I did notice the engine block near the base of the rear jug looked wet from oil. (Maybe needs a base gasket).
So I offered the guy $3000 and he accepted my offer! I will pick it up next weekend. Have to rent a trailer from uhaul.
I will post updates as I work on the bike.

I have to find a Service manual either on Ebay, or buy a new one @ HD if they're still available.

Here are a couple pictures I took today:

Wow, $3,000 grand is great if all you need is some fluids and tires.
The gaskets and such are just maintenance.
A big twin Harley regardless of year with a clean title that is able to run straight down a road is worth at least $5,000.
If you put a $1,000 into it with tires, battery, fluids and some gaskets as a do it yourself it is a very good deal.
I wonder how many miles?
Should clean-up really nice after the 10 pounds of dust is removed.

Nice find. I think you did real good on the price. The bike should have a nice long life with you. Clean it, fix it and ride the heck out of it.

I miss my 1986 FL. It was a good old bike. We had many happy miles together.

Thanks, there are 32,247 miles on the clock, and yes a lot of dust.

I rubbed the primary cover, and a few other chrome parts as I was looking the bike over, and let me tell you. It looks like the dust is caked on. lol. Going to have to wash a few times I guess
