Hope you all don't mind me jumping in here, I just bought a 2009 Ultra with 24,000 miles on her, and wondering, what is the compensator? I bought it from the original owner, but he said it had been flawless, no problems. Wallacem in Ga

Under the big chrome left side cover there is the primary chain, the front sprocket is called the compensator, the rear is where your clutch is, under the big round cover that they call the derby cover. The front sprocket where the chain goes has a spring under it, has play in it for when you put your bike in gear, they seem to be weak and go bad. A lot of guys put the Screamin Eagle compensator in, is supposed to be more heavy duty.
2009 Ultra has been known to cause divorces. Lost of jobs due to owners spending to much time on them
1000's of owners have ridden many miles and never had a compensator issue
Same here. Hope the comp, IPB and or other major items go out before my ESP expires in Dec 2015. Or if they do not go out, they last a long time
Those parts will probably fail in January of 2016! At least that would be my luck. Hope not for your sake....If they're still good after your ESP is up might want to buy the factory service manual and/or make friends with a bike mechanic...
Compensator, tank recall, brake light switch recall, front and rear wheel bearings, Limp mode a few times, both tires cupped within 6000 miles, 2nd rear tire cupped, third seems ok. Can't remember anything else that went wrong though.
I have a 09 Streetglide that I purchased with 6k on it and I have had the rear brake switch, Tank mount recall, front tire cupping issue that most have had. The only issue that I actually have had is the starter clutch went out at about 25k. I replaced the clutch assembly myself and have had no issues since. I now have about 28k on the bike and not having any other issues but have a SE compensator in my garage and am just waiting for time to install it. I also am replacing the tires because I am sick of the rear wheel cupping and sounding like a jeep. I have gotten decent mileage out of the stockers but just do not like the wear and road noise. I just got a set of michelin commander II's delivered yesterday and am looking forward to trying those. Overall I have been pretty happy with it. Knock on wood. Good luck wit hte sale of your bike!
thx... I have it listed... We'll see.. If it sells I'll look at upgrading to the '14 Ultra Limited most likely... Probably the worst time to sell a bike, may have to wait till the spring. If I can't sell it and still have the itch to upgrade in the spring maybe I'll revisit trading it in.
