I have a 2013 road king so this shouldn't concern me at all, but I've been enjoying reading the different comments regarding the new vent. I had a 2010 street glide and the buffeting was terrible. Admittedly, I should have taken more time to resolve the issue, but I ended up selling it. I would definitely consider another street glide or ultra now that the vent seems to solve the buffeting problem but for now I'm loving my road king. But for those who complain about the appearance of the vent (doesn't really bother me), I'm wondering about some options. On my street glide I had the chrome piece that went across the fairing just under the windshield. I'm wondering if the addition of that chrome would make the vent appear better or worse (more of a contrast between the shiny chrome and the black vent). And I'm also wondering if making that piece in black rather than chrome would make the black vent look better or worse.
Just thinking out loud. Any opinions?

I am on a 2004 Road King now after having to sell my 2013 Rg Ultra. It is weird being able to see the whole road again. But I do miss the wind control. I sold my 2012 Street Glide after neck surgery because the buffeting was killing me no matter what I tried. The Road Glide made for such a comfortable ride even at 100mph. But I admit I am real curious about the new style of the fairing and the vent. From everything I have read and heard from people I know who have rode one it is a major difference. While I am not currently in the market for a new bike I want to eventually get back on the newer frame. And I want to find out for myself how the ride is. I will be test riding one soon just so I can judge for myself. Luckily being such a good customer at my local dealer will allow for a very extended test ride.
And as far as the look of the vent I have said all along painted to match with a honeycomb grill would greatly improve the looks. Chrome would look like *** IMO. And I am thinking they may discover that making it adjustable instead of just open and close will help with different height riders and wind conditions. Maybe making it a rotary click dial instead of a push button open and close.
The vent is black from the factory. Seems to me they should have color matched it.
Simple, just buy the black one and be done with it. Seriously I looked at a 2014 Limited in black and from 50 ft away it was difficult to tell the difference between it and a black 13 Limited they had on the floor. So I guess your right color matching the vent does look better your color options are just limited.
