Default My choice

I got a 13 UC over the limited. It cost me 4500 less(sticker price) I got a pack rack, security system added but installed both myself. Sure the limited has abs, heated grips, lots of chrome.
But it doesn't come with front and rear bumper guards, full saddle bag guards, just hoops.
It is just a choice. I chose to save 3800, get one hell of a bike and don't regret it.
Used the money on pipes and stage 1. Drivers back rest.
And if its cold, I ware gloves.

The Classic didn't have cruise, rear speakers, CB, security...it was the "entry level" or bottom rung of the Electra Glide family...

In dropping it from the line up, MoCo just did away with a bike that didn't sell as we'll as the Ultra or the Limited, and lessened the choices for riders looking to move up. I'm sure part of this decision was based on the fact that there were going to be a lot of folks trading in 2009 and up bikes that would be selling for less than a new bike with no real bells and whistles on it.

For most of us who ave been riding a while, we know what we want and why, which is what the limited offers, but there would still be people that might not want the water cooled heads or (name an option) that is standard on the Limited, so get the Ultra, add what you might want that's standard on the limited and save a few bucks...

Doing "packages" allow MoCo to manufacture bikes cheaper because every limited is going to have x-y-z standard and every Ultra isn't, while still having the ability to special order or for the dealer to add to the bikes...

Also the limited you get painted inner fairing instead of the flat black. Mines gloss black. You do get more if it's 4-5000 more that I don't know.

Both are great bikes, it's just how much do you want to spend at once, I bought the ultra, of course black, and compared to my 2011 ultra, it's stronger, and seems to take bumps better because of the bigger forks, I have the 6.5 boom radio that was a factory option. A few things it doesn't have that the limited does are heated grips, chrome plated wheels, twin cooling, painted inner fairing and the 12volt plug in, in the tour pack, I put the airwing rack with led light in it on the tour pak, which I woulda had to buy for a limited since it comes with the regular rack. It all depends on what u want, I liked what the ultra had, and the tank badges better than what was on the limited. And by the way, linked brakes are standard on the ultra, mine did have the security option. All in all both are great bikes, have ridden both, I just chose the ultra, in black.

Teething issues aside I think the cooled heads are a huge advancement. The number one reason I chose the limited. Both large steps forward.

I moved from an 08 Ultra to a 14 limited based on color, juice clutch, audio, painted inner fairing, and all of the other extras that my Ultra didn't have. I had quite a few of the things added to my Ultra that my Limited came stock with but the tipping point for me to the Limited was the water cooling. Yes it's only partial but it does make more SOTP power than my 08. My .02 but YMMV.

Yea I agree, both are more advanced than their predecessors, and the wet head will really shine in the hot of summer in traffic.

And yea anything as new as a water cooled head on a tour harley will have its bugs to be worked out, but sounds as though they have gotten a big jump on it. And you know they've got the other manufactures scrambling to do some r&d to try and stay up with a motorcycle that the riders of those other bikes think are dinosaurs.

I didn't really want the water cooled heads- just my preference and heat has never been an issue for me. I went with the Ultra with the 6.5" screen- i like the wheels better on the limited, but not enough to make me pay the difference. They didn't have the one color of limited that I like, but they did have the Ultra in the Blackened Cayenne that I really liked so that's what I went with!
