Default Has any semi mechanical inclined - installed their own cam?

2012 Streetglide 103"

Looking at the Andrews 57 or Reaper 574

First, i am not a mechanic, but i am mechanically inclined.

i have watched some youtube videos on cam installs.
Looks like a job i can do, but of course there is always some doubt.

I KNOW there are some of you out here who feel/felt the same.

If you have recently installed your first cam, please share the experience.

Anyone wanna help me with the install $$? I am in Easton, PA.

It's easy stuff, just make sure you follow your service manual, take your time, and double check everything.

Maybe a twelve pack job. No worries man. As above take your time. Watch for the o-rings on the oil passages and don't forget that a bearing seal puller and installer is necessary. Letters on new bearings always FACE you when installing. Make sure you put the new cams on the chain the correct way . You want the chain to turn the same way as original.

I changed the cams out on my 2012 FLHTK last summer. Wasn't a terrible job. Probably took me 3-4 evenings after work. I had zero experience but I'm pretty handy. Followed online videos and the service manual and had no problems. Just make sure you have all the right tools.

I haven't done it yet, but like you, watched a couple videos.

Only thing I think would be tricky is getting the pushrods adjusted correctly.

If you go the the Fuel Moto site, there is a good Cam installation video.

Done it many times and it is much easier with the right tools. If y9ou don't have the cam press tooling, be sure to measure across the ends of the cams before you press the old ones out and be sure the new cams center to center distance is exactly the same as what you pulled out. It is very easy to damage the inner cam bearings if the center to center distance is off and it makes it very difficult to get the cam plate and cams assembly back in the cam chest.

Take your time, measure twice and record the number, press the old 1's out and press the new 1's in then make the center to center adjustment before CAREFULLY and WITHOUT FORCE, load the cam asm back in.

I haven't done the cams but did the push rods and those were a snap. The videos are priceless for a learning aide.
