Just talked to Mark at M&Mcycles...his computer is down so nothing he can do for me today. What he did tell me is that he will ensure my satisfaction...please call back Monday.
Mark will make it right, there is no question...this weekends run to Phoenix and back will help me determine what to do.
I think IU_Booger is referring to the grounding of the unit to the cradle and not the cradle itself.... I could be wrong though. It would be worth a look.
I replaced the mounting bracket on the inner fairing. It appeared to have a loose fit and occasionally the unit would blink and seem to have a rattle as well. The dealer gave me a new one and i have no problems since.
The mounting bracket appears to be good, again, when I fool with the bracket without touching the cradle the GPS sits in, I get no change. When I pus against the GPS, into the cradle, it improves.
As for the grounding of the unit...that would happen through those contacts I described...I do think that those contacts are the problem.
thats exactly what i had. I didnt mean the bracket was loose on the fairing i meant that it was loose when i set the gps unit into the bracket it never seemed to sit all the way in like it should. Even the new one seems to have two clicks before its seated properly.
The cradle clicks twice into the mount. It's fine. It's the GPS unit itself doesn't make contact with that cradle. The cradle makes contact with the mount fine...WHEW! I'll have to post pics Sunday when I get back home if it's still not clear.
There is a firmware update from Garmin to correct this problem. New version is 3.5 I believe. Basically it puts a delay of about 5 or 10 seconds on the shutdown so the short glitches don't screw it up. Download from Garmin and it will fix you up. Also on min I had a contact inside the shoe (the part that slips onto the bike. Couple screws and openned it up, small sliding contact was stuck back. Also use a little silicone dielectric grease on all the contacts.
UltraGeezerGlide has found the replacement part (which he has offered to purchace), but it's $100!!!!!![:@] That stupid black plastic cradle that the GPS sits in that slides onto the bike is a $100!!!![]
The whole thing together is $500....
Such crap. I'm still waiting on Mark from M&M, I talked to him yesterday and he said he knew what I needed and was going to take care of it for me.
I just installed my Quest last week and I love the new gadget... My bike is getting close to having more electronics than my helicopter... If I could just a figure a way to carry 9000 rounds for my Gau-2 for those bad traffic days...
Anyway, what was the final cause/fix? I've got the same unit with 3.50 installed and haven't had any problems... Was it a loose mount that ended getting busted or do you think it was not having the software update?
