Default Full Face or Modular Helmet opnions needed

Need some opinions on ff or modular helmets. I ride a 2013 SG and usually with a Outlaw 1/2 helmet , today I broke out my old FF (HJC-05) and went for a ride. The ride about beat my head to hell and back, I have a 7 Ultra LRS shield with the 1/2 helmet the buffeting did not bother me but the FF is a definite no go. I am looking for a full face helmet or modular that is a little more aerodynamic so to speak. Do I need to change the windshield?

Thanks

11 Sg with a 9" windshield. In line with my upper lip when sitting on the bike. No helmet, 1/2 or full helmet, buffeting is low and at an acceptable level for me. Next helmet will be a modular for sure.

I have an HJC Symax II, that I'll be replacing this winter with the newer Symax III. Modular helmets tend to be more noisy than FF, but I don't mind the trade-off in convenience. Motorcycle Consumer News did a test recently and recommended an AGV Miglia... I might look at that one as well.

There are some pretty good resources on the web... might want to google motorcycle helmets

The price of modulars has really come down over the last couple of years I have a Hawk that I paid I think about $89 for.I'm not saying you need to go that cheap but for that price you get a modular helmet with removable ,washable padding and a flip down sun visor.Buffetting is a non issue but the noise is another story.I've installed the headset in mine so I just turn up the music to drown it out.Have you considered a 3/4? I have an Outlaw 3/4 as well it's light and comfortable with no noise or buffetting issues.

I went from a 1/2 to a Shoei F-1000 FF two years ago.

At that time the modular ones where still pretty expensive. I get no buffeting on my FF, even with the windshield off, but that may be due to the different style bike that I have.

The next helmet will more than likely be a modular though.

Like my Shark Evo III.

Do not notice buffeting, and like the look.

Run most of the time in 3/4 mode. Only rotate the chin bar when at fwy speeds, or when it gets chilly.

Nolan N43E Trilogy. Best helmet I have owned. Converts from FF to 3/4. Still have my Modular (HAWK) and my Outlaw HH. Use all three but most of the time I use the Nolan.

I just bought a Lazer Monaco modular and went on a 2500 mile trip on my '11 SG with stock windshield. Only on the days where the wind was whipping at 30+ did I have any issues with buffeting...and on days like that, no windshield or helmet is going to help.

For a mid-range helmet ($300), it is incredibly quiet (due to its aerodynamics), incredibly comfortable, very light for a non-carbon modular, and the photochromic shield is fantastic. Has decent ventilation...was never hot at hwy speeds but when below 45mph in 100+ heat, I opened the shield a click or two for a bit more air.

Oh, also comes with a pinlock shield that never fogged on me when I was riding in sub 50 up in the Sierra's.

As an example of how quiet the helmet is, I could clearly hear my 2 stock fairing speakers at 80-90mph on the super slab in breezy conditions (< 30mph winds).

I highly recommend it (obviously).

I have neck problems, so I have to keep it light. Went for a Bell Star Carbon. Not cheap, but fits great, lightweight, and no buffeting, and my windshield is cut down. The photo chromatic shield is a big plus. The modular helmets are heavy.

I have the GMax GM54S and for the price it's pretty functional. Works well when going through base entry gate b/c I can show my ID matches my mug...
