You took the words out of my mouth! Why we think "better" is equated to price is beyond me. I drive a Mercedes, but there are alot cheaper cars that have crash test ratings better or just as good. A dealer = someone with an opinion and is in the business of making money. Now, let me start searching for a winter helmet that is DOT approved and is less than $200

I have the Shoe Multitech and have no complaints. Several buddies have the Shark and they can run it in all positions with no problems. Kinda wish I would have gone that route because I have to run it close or the flip up is like a sail in the wind.

Since I wear glasses I wear modular for the on/off convenience. I started buying HJC (same factory as some HD brand) as they are locally sold and I could try them on for fit. I have FF, HH and modular. When I started leaving the bike at airports with the helmet locked to it, I bought a DOT approved BILT modular. I think it was $99. It is more rounded or bulbulous than the HJC models.

The aerodynamics are exactly the opposite of what you think you need. The sharp part goes at the back not the front. The sharp front is design over science made to sell to SQUIDs. Take a look at bicycle helmets used in time trials.

One thing I have noticed is that the cheap BILT is much easier and controllable when turning your head at fast highway speeds. The pointy HJC (FF and Mod) has much more drag and thus neck loading. And yes, I tested them all on the same stretch of highway tonup. For Science! (wind conditions and bike speedo may vary). I tested each with QD 18, QD 14, Quarter fairing, no windshield and on a Yamaha FZ1 and Suzuki Savage with clipons (not enough tailwind for the ton). It was either test helmets or watch Downtown Abbey.

In the winter when my cabral isn't enough I break out my Arai Vector. It's a really top quality helmet. I haven't tried any modulars.

An $800 helmet that is SNELL rated will be better/safer than a $190 DOT.

The usually higher price will get you better airflow, fit etc

Fwiw I have an HJC FF snell helmet that sells for $117 on Revzilla.

Of course "better" means different things to different people.

Better to me means safer. But to you it may be looks, features, air flow etc.

I could not get the links to work. They did not go to a single helmet, but a whole page full of them. I have had both modular and full face helmets. I love the quiet in the full face and how much lighter they are too. Still I think the convenience of the modular will win out. My next one will be a flip up.

Nope,
shed the helmet and put the miles on the girl.

We used to wear helmets at the track on dirt bikes, but they don't belong on the street. I also wore one to get my license 35 years ago and that was it.
