Wow, inflation is really out of control. It was a $10 head in the Bell ads a long time ago....

Fwiw I have an HJC FF snell helmet that sells for $117 on Revzilla.
Here ya go. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...helmet-faq.htm

Some good reading here with no reason not to believe it, unless you want to

Excerpt: "Their conclusion is that the inexpensive, polycarbonate shell Z1R ZRP-1 helmet (review) transferred an average of 152Gs to the head-form, vs. 211Gs of the Snell-approved Scorpion EXO-700."

In the FWIW column: I've interviewed a lot riders in the ER that had accidents resulting in cracked helmets; never interviewed one there that had a cracked head! That said, I believe in choice and don't care what anybody chooses to do......it's your head! (And I occasionally ride without one, but not often....it's a Murphy's Law thing with me!)

My point is these threads usually turn into "how cheap someone can find a helmet".
As soon as most everyone on here buys a $20k to $30k bike they put and $1000 exhaust on it, then seat, suspension, bars, etc. but the helmet threads are about cost usually.
Fit, weight, noise and air flow are my biggest concerns with finding the right helmet. Unfortunately, the $100 helmet don't offer all that in my findings.

The medical profession has made great advances to date. A buddy hit a deer 2 years ago, and after air lifting him to Regions here in the cities, they popped part of his skull out to let his brain swell and prevent further damage. He rides to this day without one. I know its personal preference, but my belief is at slow speeds it would save a gourd, but at highway speeds or better (which is 90% of the time for me or better) it won't save anything. I play the odds all though I am not much of a gambler per sae'. Besides, I am on my 3rd bout of cancer so..................

Having always lived where helmets are mandatory I couldn't even imagine not wearing one. I am 66 years old and have been riding since I was 16, mostly metric bikes.
One thing I notice is that nobody here is talking about the color of the helmet. From my observations on the road, most Harley riders wear black half helmets. I think it's a macho, fashion thing.
Hopefully nobody ever has to actually find out if their helmet saves their head but it's just plain smart to wear a good quality "brain bucket".
I wear the Scorpion EX9000 in HIGH VISIBILITY YELLOW. Not only does it protect me but it also makes me easier to see. I also wear a Joe Rocket high vis textile jacket for the same reason. My attitude is that with this gear on the only way someone is going to hit me is if they intended to. There, that's my two cents.

I went with a Bell Mag 9. It's a 3/4 helmet with a retractable clear sheild and a retractable tinted sun shield. Ear pockets for headphones and a good price from Ebay. I have a full modular too that is nice but heavy and big which drags wind and gives me a sore neck after a long day.

I will be starting a 400 mile commute once a week (out to work on Tue and back home the following Tue night) and even though I like riding with my half helmet I bought a full face for the protection from the rain and bugs. I went with a top of the line not because I felt it offered better protection, but for the comfort factor. It is very light weight and the interior is way above the lower price helmets I looked at. It is an AGV Grid btw.

I heard the Lazer Carbon is a nice helmet. Pricey, bit nice! And light too.

I bought a Scorpion EXO 900 3-in-1 modular helmet a couple of years ago and think I've worn it twice. Does a great job and the integrated smoked pull down visor is nice, no buffeting, good air vents, inflatable neck pad, and very quiet...but really not what I want to wear...would make someone a sweet deal :-)

Solid black XL or XXL, don't remember which
