Default Do seats wear out?

I've had a sundowner for the past 45k miles, and it's been comfortable as heck....this year though, I can't ride for more than an hour without experiencing lower back pain. Could my seat just be worn out, and time for a new one?

I'm a bit confused about what may be the cause as I also had a lower back injury this year, but now the back feels fine, but the pain from riding hasn't gone away...

thanks for any insight....

Anything will wear out with usage and time.

Odds are it was your'e lower back injury versus the seat going "bad" at the 45K point.
You may find it feasible to spend the $300 and replace, but if I were are a gambling man all of my money goes to your newly done back injury.
I would bet (barring a 400 lb rider) the seats would hold up a couple hundred K before "wearing out".
Maintenance also comes into play, such as leaving the bike set out in the elements versus garaging, etc.....

Have Mean City Cycles repair your seat. From what I read, it would be better than a new seat and would be custom fit to you.

That's true. Just ask my ex-wife's vag... but I digress.

I'm with the guys who say to have it repaired. You'll get a more custom fit. However, 45K doesn't sound like long enough for a seat to wear out. Is it possible that you're still feeling the effects of the back injury, but it's only noticeable after riding for a while? I had back issues in the past and usually feel 100%, but there are times when it will flare up after doing the simplest things.

Yes, seats do wear out. Padding goes soft and the cover material wears thin, leading to less support, tears, rips, etc.

Don't know what you ride, but I have a great seat for sale. It's a Road King Driver Seat (52949-97A) with Passenger Pillion Seat (52281-97B). Fits 1997-2004 Road King and other touring models. Includes embroidered "H-D" logo and black studs around rear of both seats. Perfect condition with absolutely no signs of wear. Price is $125 plus shipping.

They will wear out but a lot of factors come into play with when a seat will start to give up. Rider's weight, when the seat was made, there seat was in line when being poured and so on.
