For the record, my fall-away was adjusted right off the bat. In fact, it felt annoyingly tight to me for a brief while. Within a week or two it loosened up and the wobble returned.
qttracer--that letter was on the forum a while back--seems some dealers were buying bulk oil and using it for oil changes and telling customers it was HD oil.
mkguitar--when you pay someone to do something...check/inspect tires and inflate to proper pressure--they need to make sure that it is done by someone other than the shop washboy or porter. yes, the OP does need to check his air from time to time.
seems the 1k service was done by an indy...he probably never checked the air pressure...since he assumed that the owner was checking it.
i think more people would check their air pressure on a regular basis if it was not so damned hard to do. it is a real pain in the *** to get a tire gauge on the valve stem that comes on these bikes--are you listening moco?
The letter is dated 9-4-2013, how long ago could it have been?
That letter is useless, their lawyers need to read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MagnusonMoss_Warranty_Act
Unless HD what's to do free oil changes they cannot tell you what brand to use. Someone needs to tell them their oil is inferior.
First of all they are not saying to only use HD oil. So the free oil/oil changes you speak of doesn't apply. Second of the point is HD can require you to buy specific oil to keep your warranties in force, the only thing the have to do is make the requirements available to other oil companies and the other oil companies also have to pay a licensing fee to HD for the certification . Don't believe me, do a search on GM's new Dexos oil requirement. That is exactly what they are doing. HD isn't inventing this, they are following GM's boiler plate. Letter isn't useless. Just wait and see. It is only 1 month old.
Well I picked it up and it rides great. No shake or wobble after replacing both tires under warranty. It was nice to pick up a bike after service and not be covered in greasy finger prints, nice job cleaning it up. I have not checked the air pressure yet but will before a long ride we have scheduled Saturday. They put on Harley Logo'd D408F on the front and D407 on the rear and did not check if these matched the original tires. HD covered it and it seems good so we will see. I set the cruise at 40 and slowly eased it up to 45 and no more vibration or shaking.
So the dealer was great and even though they asked me a few questions I did not like I feel like the resolved my issue and were nice about.
Thanks to Jarrett at Hannum's Harley in Media, PA. Nice work.
Brand new tires can mask suspension and handling problems, for a while. If all they did was change tires, your wobble will probably be back.
They did adjust the stem but said the shake was still there so they replaced the tires. I told them when I picked it that I was really surprised tires would fix it. I have a year of warranty left so we will see and I will get about 6 hours on Saturday to test it loaded up. I have no issues with doing stem and rear bushings upgrades myself in a year or two if needed. Done those before and its not too bad.

You probably gave them a few answers they didn't like either. I'm glad you mentioned the dealer because considering the 9psi tire pressure you were running with, they went above and beyond to make you happy. I've never heard a bad word about either of the Hannum dealerships.
If you only had 9 psi in your tire then you had some major wobble. Tire psi should have been the first thing you should have checked Mr. Mechanic. This forum never ceases to amaze me. A person purchases a 20k+ machine and can't perform a simple PM like checking tire psi.
So yours doesn't wobble. I'm impressed. Mine still does, and it's well maintained, and I've tried several "fixes", and my riding skills are reasonably good. What now?
