i know this question has probably been asked but i need input on what cam to run on my glide. i allways ride 2up and i want to be able to pass trucks fast...im going with andrews but i havent decided between 26g or 37g...im a big fella and my wife isnt that "petite" so my mechanic is saying to go with the 37g....but others say the 26g...any input or experiences? thanx in advance for advise. by the way im going with v&h headers and thunderheader slipons.

The 26g will give you the low end grunt. If you look at Andrews' site you can see the RPM range for the performance of each cam. I'm 6'0 215lbs and my wife is not petit either. I went with the 26g in mine.

Here's a few thoughts for you.
Andrews shows these cams to operate at these RPM ranges
21G 1700-4800
26G 1800-5200
37G 2200-5600
Now each cams "sweet spot" would be the middle of that range.
Add the numbers and divide by 2 to get the magic number.
21G 3250
26G 3500
37G 3900
Most people get all excited about cam specs and then buy up one cam, this is a common mistake.
My rule of thumb for years has been, pick what you think you want ,and then go down one cam.
If you were to run a heavy bike and big people at a cruise speed of X which was 3250 rpm's , then the 21G would be the one.
The same bike going faster , or having a lighter load and cruising at X speed at 3500 rpm's , then the 26G might be better.
The milder grinds tend to "feel better" down low and make more torque with a less modified engine.
The bigger grinds tend to lose some bottom end for the sake of higher end horsepower with a less modified engine.
Big bottom end power is made by high valve lift and short duration and overlap, all other things being equal.
With these thoughts in mind, you can pick the "realistic" range for "your" needs.
One last tidbit, milder cams tend to give better fuel mileage and are easier to tune than heavier grinds.
Hope this helps take some of the "mystery" out of cam selection for you.
My choice would be the 21G , and I'll probably do mine in the next year or so.
Good luck.
Mick

Given what you have stated as your goals & objectives, the Andrews 26 would be an excellent choice! I have used them in stock 88's and numerous 95's... The imporvement on the stock (it had D&D slip-ons and & SE high-flow air filter) 88" was SHOCKING!

You just said the the bike is a "glide" & I'm assuiming you mean EG or RG, NOT WideGlide, right? The 26 is much better suited for the EG / RG, where as the 37 might e better in a WG because the bike is much lighter and riding styles of the two bikes are typically a little different.

How does the 26G compare to the S&S 510G cams?

Iasked andrews about the 21g & 26g and they said the26 was what I needed to go with on the 96 motor and it would not run right with the 21,like you I'm looking for low and mid range torque, hope there right because thats what I have coming.

I just did the 26g's, waiting for a decent day to try them out. Today may be the day, supposed to hit 60!

I have 26G's in a 88" bike. I love the way it pulls when riding two-up and loaded down heavy with luggage. Top gear roll on's are stout. No need for downshifting on the interstate. Just twist the throttle and go. It does great in the mountains, also.
