I was looking at air cleaners at several after-market sites and was shocked at how expensive they are. I thought it might be interesting to change up from the typical factory-issue model but that little red filter in there must be made out of expensive gem-stone at the prices they were asking.
well first off, you can use your existing cover with most aftermarket air cleaners.
There are a lot of nice and efficient air cleaners out there for reasonable amounts.
I got my S&S Stealth from Direct Cycle Parts/Frank (forum sponsor) for $105 shipped but that's just the air cleaner. The bobber style cover and rainsock were another $96 shipped.
that's why i suggested the ness big sucker to you in the other thread.
$114 shipped is what i paid, easternpc on ebay
easier install, the throttle body brace and tank stay in place ( mask the tank with tape, in case of wrench slip)
chrome backing plate ( other may be cast grey against the black and chrome heads)
oiled, washable reusable filter media
and uses the stock cover- this hides the ugly servo plug and wiring at 8 o'clock on the throttle body- you can see how ugly it is in the pic, previous post

yeah i could do without the throttle body wiring showing but nothing I can do about it. I bought the heavy breather TB cover and commenced to cutting it up to fit but it was a wasted $50...
I'm a big fan of the old school S & S teardrop air cleaner and cover.
I used to run the Super E on my carb bikes. Maybe I got used to the look. Don't know.
Thanks MikeGuitardude; and Ultranutz thanks for the pic, I like that S&S, it's small and really shows more of that nice engine; and how 'bout 'dem Saints!

I got the Ness version and it doesn't have little re-direct tubes that point potential oil blow by back into the throttle body's venturi like the stock ones do. Mine pukes oil all over the place and requires constant re-cleaning of the filter element.
The resulting eternal mess makes my friends tease me and I ride home crying.
