Does anyone know what formats to use to put music on a USB drive to play on the new radios? I'm still in the CD generation I guess. Have hundreds of them.
MP3 works fine. If you use iTunes you should be able to copy and paste individual songs or ones within a playlist right to the drive. I did it with about 600 songs, and it works perfectly. I have it set to shuffle under media settings. If I don't want to hear the song that is on, I just skip to the next one.
MP3 worked for me. I put a little over 8 GB on a flash drive with multiple folders with multiple albums in some of the folders and all went well except for all the songs in each album were listed twice? Also my phone would not pair with the infotainment system while the flash drive was installed. I downloaded and installed the update from HD and didn't see any change. Now after a couple of days it seems to have healed itself?

if you want a free program to rip your cd collection to mp3, take a look at exact audio copy. it is technically still in beta, so the included documentation is sparse, but there are a ton of configuration guides on the internet.
MP3 is the most commonly used, but now almost every stereo that can play files from a thumb drive will play songs in any format you could imagine. If I remember correctly .wav files are what's actually on a CD but they are somewhat larger than an MP3. As someone stated earlier, songs from iTunes also play fine on a thumb drive. The first stereo I had like this was much more particular than the ones today. Today its not nearly important to know which format your files are in.

raw cd files are .cda files. you are correct that wav files are larger than mp3's. with the program i referenced above, you can rip your own mp3 files and you can specify what bit rate you want, higher quality at 320kbps, or am radio at 90kpbs, and in between. i usually rip mine at 256kbps for use on the bike. higher than you really need due to wind noise, etc. but it's like synthetic oil, it makes me feel good

I have an iMac and use iTunes with their match program. All my music is Apple's m4a. It is very high quality and works well on a USB thumb drive on my 2014 Limited. Was using a iPod Nano but the thumb drive seams to work faster.
