Default 21" front wheel

Looking to change out my stock front wheel with a 21" wheel and looking for comments on those who have done so on a Street Glide.

1. What year is your bike?
2. Did you change out the back wheel or kept stock? If so, what size (ie 18x4, etc.)?
3. What front wheel and tire did you get (ie, make/model/size 21x?)?
4. Did you encounter any change in steering and handling?
5. Was there any dipping or a feeling of front end lightness when you or a passenger were riding?
6. Did you make any changes to correct differences noted in questions 4 & 5?
7. Did you lower the front end, if so what did you change out and install (ie shorter springs, Progressive Suspension Front Fork Springs, etc.) ?
8. If you had to do it over again, what would you buy or do differently?
9. Did you modify the fork rake? If so, by how much and what did you use?

-Thanks,
Night_Prowler

1. What year is your bike? 09 SG
2. Did you change out the back wheel or kept stock? Changed out back wheel.
3. What front wheel and tire did you get (ie, make/model/size)? Ridewright 7 Sins wheel with Avon Cobra 120-70-21
4. Did you encounter any change in steering and handling? Didn't notice any change in steering but it seemed that handling was a better.
5. Was there any dipping of a feeling of lightness when you or a passenger were riding? No
6. Did you make any changes to correct differences noted in question 3? Not yet.
7. Did you lower the front end, if so what did you change out and install (ie shorter springs, Progressive Suspension Front Fork Springs, etc.) ? Not yet but planning on using either Progressive drop springs or monotubes. I'd like to drop it 1" or 1 1/2".
8. If you had to do it over again, what would you buy or do differently? I would go 23" instead.
9. Did you modify the fork rake? If so, by how much and what did you use? No

1. What year is your bike? Had one on my '09 SG
2. Did you change out the back wheel or kept stock? Yes went 17x 5.5 (I think) Ran a 17x200/50 rear tire.
3. What front wheel and tire did you get (ie, make/model/size)? Coastal Moto Phantom (metzler tires)
4. Did you encounter any change in steering and handling? No
5. Was there any dipping of a feeling of lightness when you or a passenger were riding? (No)
6. Did you make any changes to correct differences noted in question 3? lowered front 1" with progressive drop-in kit and ricor intiminators.
7. Did you lower the front end, if so what did you change out and install (ie shorter springs, Progressive Suspension Front Fork Springs, etc.) ? See 6
8. If you had to do it over again, what would you buy or do differently? Highly reccomend Coastal Moto. Good Prices and great service. Probably won't do it on my Ultra. The low profile tires ride a little harsher and its hard to pick up tires like a 17x200/50 when on the road touring if you need to.
9. Did you modify the fork rake? If so, by how much and what did you use? don't need to modify rake with a 21'

-Thanks,

Watching this thread closely as this is exactly what I was going to ask after searching if I didn't find what I was looking for

Thanks for asking!

blazink5 - Why 23? Just for looks or for handling? I'm one of those in the camp of function first, then form (though they run really close to neck and neck ). 23 would seem nice, but almost too large too me, but I've seen a LOT of good looking bikes with 23's

I am running the DNA fat spoke 21. Love the looks, handleing is very similar to stock, but you can feel a small difference in sweepers. Something to think about with 21s is fender clearence. Some people can just bolt 21s on and go, some people burn fender paint. For me, the clearence was to tight and I had to modify my fender mounts. Just something to CHECK, once you bolt a 21 on.

I really like the look of the 23". I'm not quite sure what the handling is with a 23" but I've read that there is no issues. But I'm happy with my 21", for now.

We sell a ton of 21" front packages for touring models. I see all kinds of combinations go out the door, from just a rim and a hub to full packages with both wheels, matching rotors, pulleys, tires, and anything else imaginable. 99.99% of the time you do not have to modify anything. A motorcycle is still a manufactured product and small things can vary slightly, so you always need to double check clearances during install. On the past CVO models and 2014 touring models, the fender has to be raised, but the majority of major manufacturers are including risers for free for the '14's.

Some customers stay with the stock size in the rear and some go larger. Some customers lower the front end, some don't. Some will also just go with an air ride in the rear because they like the upward angle that the front takes when they collapse the shock. As far as I can tell from people calling us back, it's all a matter of preference and comfort.

Here's a link to tech articles about this topic on our website. There's one specific models, so hopefully it will provide more info.

Let me know if I can help!
