DK Outlaw is affordable and vents pcv to atmosphere. Filter wise look at the synthetic media washable oil less filter instead of the oil and gause type.

Ness big sucker:

under $120 from easternpc on ebay- shipped

easier install- the throttle body brace and tank stay in place

CHROME backing plate, means that the black and chrome motor is complemented- the S/E and others may be a cast grey- that doesn;t look so good where it attaches at the heads

oiled, washable, reusable filter media- not all hi flow kits offer this

...I used the S/E on many evo bikes, but back than they came with a K&N filter. the s/e is no longer the better value.

Arlen Ness Big Sucker because it's the cheapest and yes it will work with your stock cover.Knowing that all Stage 1 filters will flow more than you stock motor can actually use there's no reason to spend more.I got mine on Ebay for 121 shipped.I'm sure some have paid less.

Look at the S&S Stealth air cleaner, you can use the stock cover. I have had one on my last 3 bikes, works great and you can pick them up on ebay for around $110 from Eastern Performance.

the problem with aftermarket stage 1 is they all use K&N filters. K&N filters are junk. They are designed for racing applications and are designed to be cleaned after each race.

The old S&S cleaners used foam elements, not sure why they are using the K&N's now.

Yep. Harley has a nice SE washable synthetic media filter. Some other good alternatives as well.

Not wanting to start a debate here but I guess I have just been lucky using K&N all these years, never a issue.
