When I was removing the glass from my speedo and tach on my '08 Ultra for cleaning something happened to the speedo needle and it no longer goes to zero. I probably bumped it when I was removing the glass and bezel. It starts at about 8 mph now. The speedometer still works but is off by the 8 mph. Can I just pull the needle off and put it back on at zero? How is the best way to remove the needle?
Sorry I can't help you out,but my question is.How did you remove the glass and bezel, and do you think you can get it sealed again? After 75000kms the inside of the glass on the tach and speedo is lookin pretty bad on my 09 Classic.
I took my time and went slowly and it took about 20 minutes of gently prying the metal bezel back to get them off. Once I got the glass out I tried soap, Windex, Lysol, WD40 and dishwashing liquid to clean the glass. None of them worked. I then tried what the post above said and that was metal polish and with some elbow grease and about 30 mintes of polishing per glass they are clean and clear. I put everything back together and pried the bezel back down in a couple of places and then used black RTV silicone to seal the bezel to the case. Let them dry overnight, install the next morning and go for a ride.
All works great but be careful that you don't bump the gauge needle. I have to open the speedo again to adjust the needle back to zero.
