Lost a connecting rod on my bike last week and am now borrowing a friends 2003 Ultra with 209K miles on it. Im picking it up tonight and heading to Galveston Tx for the Lone Star Rally on Friday. The owner told me the running lights stopped working the last time he rode it. He has not looked at it and has no idea why. I need to try and fix this problem in the next few evenings so I can head to the rally.
Im going to start with the simple stuff like fuses, bulbs, exposed wires under the fenders etc. If none of this does the trick what are some common things to cause this. Thanks for any help you can give. With any luck ill have it fixed and on the road by Friday.
Could be as simple as a fuse or connector somewhere. When you say "running lights" exactly which lights, spots, turn signals, what? If they all (?) stopped working at once then backtrack to the power source (back to fuse). Gotta know which lights first.
Im not sure as I haven't pick the bike up yet. I was told it is the running lights....tail light, front amber lights etc. The brake lights and turn signals are supposed to work but again I wont know for sure till this evening when I pick it up. I will start with fuses, bulbs, and grounds. Im just trying to get some ideas of where to look if the usual things don't fix it. I have very little time to mess around before I need to be heading south.
Problem solved. Turns out it was a short in trailer light harness. Removed the harness and no more problem. The bike turned out to be a 2004 and has 211K on it. Runs and rides great for being as used as it is.
