You're in quite a fix, and I see the responses have clearly helped you make your decision??? The "try them first" response is probably the best. You also should really consider your planned use of your scooter. If it's gonna be a weekend thing - or will you be doing any serious touring? Road my RKC to Sturgis - had a terrific ride, but there sure were times I wished I could replace the windscreen with a fairing.
Whatever you choose, just gettin onto two wheels and out into the breeze will make it the right choice.
Welcome - ride safe! Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself.
I am fortunate to have both a 2007 RK Classic and a 2007 Street Glide. I have stage 1, SERT, V & H true Duals with ovals on both. So, let me tell you honestly my opinion after riding the SG for 1,100 miles and the RKC for 400 miles. Here goes, both perform very well over my 2006 models which were a RK Custom and a Street Glide. The 6 speed tranny and the added cu. in. are great. I use the RKC as my around town bar bike and the SG for the longer rides. There is definitely less vibration with the RKC, and it is a bit more nimble in handling. Accerleration is good on both. There is no problem with listening to the radio at high speeds with the SG and the Ipod plug on the radio means that I can listen to all of my favorite playlists when I ride. When it is windy, the SG moves a little more due to the fairing. I had to add cruise control to the SG, the RKC has it standard. Having all of the gauges is nice on the SG. I like the lockable hard bags better on the SG. I happen to like the mag wheels on the SG over the Profile Laced ones on the RKC, easier to clean and if you get a flat on the road you can patch and inflate the SG tires with a kit but not the RKC ones since they are tubes. Bottom line, if I could only have one bike it would be the Street Glide since it looks good around town and really performs well on the long rides. It's the best of both worlds IMHO. Good luck with your decision and no doubt you will be happy with either one.
I do like the option of having tunes with the Glide, but wonder if you can really hear much anyway when up at speed? Any opinions here?
I want something rock solid at low and high speeds, with the option of adding a rear backrest or tour pack for the wife.
Thanks for any feedback.
Just bought an '07 FLHTC.....put Thunderheader slip ons on and I can hear talk radio at 85 mph no problem. The 6 speed keeps the rpms so low it's not a factor.....Music is phenomenal on the fairing......
BTW.....the FLHTC has sort of a retro look to it...RK Classic....and it has the tour pack and wife friendly passenger seat....
If you are serious about buying the dealer most likely will let you put more than a few miles oneach for a test ride. If not; rent them both. You will answer your own question after a few miles. I ride a Street Glide and love it.
I had an 03 RKC for a little over a year and loved the bike. It could be setup for cruising around town or on the highway in a matter of seconds. It's a big beefy looking bike and rides really well.
Shortly after the SG came out I was hooked on them. I really like having music when I ride and the fairing adds a little more protection. The SG rides a little different with the back end lowered and it feels sportier.
Sometimes I think about my old Road King and kind of wish I could have both, but I can't. In the end the SG offers more for me.
Ride both and decide, but get whatever makes you smile.
I have a RK Custom with a Dragonfly fairing. If I want the SG look, the fairing stays on, if I want the "Custom" look I can easily remove it. You can't go wrong with either of your choices. Enjoy the ride!
I gotta a RK Standard... I wish I had the Street Glide. I love them, especially in Vivid Black. I mean look at it!!! I like the fairing look on it and yes the hardbags where a must for me, my wife didn't like the fairing bike, so we compromised and went with the King... well I never take the windshield off anyways, so that "option" is mute and no tunes, tach, I had to lower it... hmm I want a Glide!
