Thanks for your help in advance.
I have a 2008 Street Glide with 130,000 miles on it. No major motor work has ever been done on it. I had the Stage 1 done when bought new w/ 2/1 Super Trapp exhaust.
2 months ago I changed out the compensator to the SE upgrade compensator, (stator looked fine so left it alone), threw on a new starter, voltage regulator, and did some work on the clutch.
Last week out of the blue, she started coughing and sputtering, real bad, (kinda like I was losing the throttle on occasion). She fires up fine and idles fine, and when I rev her up in neutral there is no sputter or missing. So am thinking in the process of elimination to start looking at fuel, air, and spark. I took off the gas tank to check the fuel filter and it was like a fossilized rock. So that was definelty an issue.
The fuel pump is working so am guessing thats not part of the issue. It either works or it doesnt right?
While I have the gas tank off, anything else I can check or test? How would I check the ignition coil? Could that be contributing to the problem? The spark plug wires look fine.
The spark plugs are showing a rich air/fuel mixture.
I took off the back plate behind the air cleaner and it was coated heavily with oil. I cleaned it along with the breather bolts that appeared to be plugged with grime and dirt.
